It was one year ago that I began final preparations for walking the 500 mile, Camino de Santiago across Northern Spain. Little did I know then the profound impact it would have on my life and work. No matter what your faith is or what level your faith is, most-likely it can be deepened, strengthened, and made real in your everyday life. The Camino lives in me every day and my life is richer because of it. Normal walking averages suggest the Camino was 1,023,000 steps. However, it was much more since so often you are going up or down and taking much smaller steps. The experience continues to open my heart to what is real and possible. While I have my challenges, shortcomings and missteps on a regular basis, I believe I am a better person, a better man, and a better friend for those in my life. Not everyone can afford the time and investment to make a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela and it is not necessary for making a change in your life for the better. You can create your own Camino and it need not be as monstrous as a 500 mile adventure. Start with something small and do it consistently for thirty days.
